Who is Nobody is a character building project that the grade 2 class at Brookside Public School is about to embark on. Who is ‘Nobody’, you might ask? Well it is an ageless, genderless, doll that is waiting for a class to turn it into ‘Somebody’ who cares.
The students do this by doing kind and helpful things to help out other people, animals or the environment. When they do this, the student adds a journal entry and pictures to the scrapbook to document their experience and then adds an appropriate memento to the doll as a symbol of what they did to help others.
Eventually, the doll, that began as plain blue, turns into a collage of mementos and symbolism to represent all of the kind acts that the students have done. Mrs. Schumacker and her students have been taking on this project for 4 years and students are thankful for their experiences.
In these photos, past students are sharing their experiences with the grade 2 classes. Random acts of kindness from students have included raising funds for charities, shoveling snow, picking up garbage, building birdhouses, to name a few.
Over the years the students have shown amazing kindness and compassion! To find out more about this very worthwhile program, visit www.whoisnobody.com.
